Mawgan Porth Beach

Recently married Rachel and Mick Bennett were making the most of their honeymoon in Cornwall. They were enjoying a romantic walk along Mawgan Porth Beach and making the most of the warm Spring weather – then things went wrong.

A man was running ahead of them, jogging along the sand, when he suddenly collapsed face-down. Rachel and Mick rushed to help, but they realised he wasn’t breathing. Mick gave CPR while Rachel called for the RNLI lifeguards to help.

Things looked bleak. Lifeguards Dave Kelly, Tim Robey and Jackson Howell rushed to help the man, lifting him out of the water so they could safely resuscitate him with their defibrillator. The man was then airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and made a full recovery. The quick reactions of the lifeguards helped to prevent a tragedy on the beach that day.

‘The lifeguards did a fantastic job in this immediate emergency situation, responding instantly and using their extensive casualty care skills to begin treating the man before paramedics arrived on scene.’
