What is Fish Supper?
RNLI Fish Supper, supported by Lakeland is an annual charity event to raise funds to support our lifesaving work. This year, Fish Supper will be held over the weekend of October 14–16. The event is a fun way to bring friends and family together for a great meal inspired by the sea. The funds raised help support volunteer crews who are ready to drop everything — even their supper — at a moment’s notice and go to the help of people in trouble on the water. When their pagers go off, no matter what time it is, they board their lifeboats and launch to the rescue, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
How Fish Supper works
Taking part is simple: you sign up to host a fish-themed supper in your home, invite your friends and family, and collect donations on the day. We’ll send you a fundraising pack when you sign up that includes recipes, hosting tips, place cards, and an envelope for collections.
As a charity, we’re funded by the generosity of people like you. The money you raise supports all aspects of our lifesaving work and could help us buy kit for our crew members or fuel for one of our lifeboats. Whether you raise a little or a lot by hosting a Fish Supper, you’re helping to save lives.
What you can do for your Fish Supper
Your Fish Supper can be as simple or as elaborate as you like – the important part is that you’re comfortable with what you’re doing. We’re here to help you every step of the way. Once you sign up, we’ll send you your fundraising pack and you can use the recipes and tips to help plan your menu, prepare a theme, create a music playlist, or organise after-dinner entertainment.
Lakeland can help you add some creative flair to your dinner table. Whether you’re hosting a quick and easy lunch or a formal dinner they've got tableware, hosting tips and recipe ideas to inspire you. Your Fish Supper is about having fun with friends and family, and supporting the RNLI’s lifesaving work. You can serve your guests lobster by candlelight or fish finger sandwiches around the kitchen table, dress fancy or try fancy dress. In the end, it’s your Fish Supper and every penny you raise will make a difference.
How to collect donations
There is no reason why asking your guests for donations should feel awkward. When you invite your guests, you can tell them it's a fundraising event, so they'll come because they want to support you and the RNLI.'
Asking your guests for donations before the dinner, while they're enjoying a glass of wine and nibbles, makes it more relaxed. Or you might want to leave the collection envelope in the centre of the table so people can give what they like, when they like.
You can host a Fish Supper on a date that suits your schedule. But you'll need to make sure your fundraising total reaches us by 26 November.
